When to Repair Database Indexes

Database systems like the Lien Programs® can be sensitive to a variety of computer errors, including power outages (both user and nature caused), computer freezes, program freezes, etc. Usually the damage is no more than damage to the open index files, the files that do fast lookups in the tables of the database. These problems generally can be fixed with a simple re-index of the database.

1) Whenever you purge a large number of Current Job records to the History File: Purging Current Job records to the History Files makes the records disappear in the display screens of the Current Jobs file, but the records are still actually there taking up space. A Deleted flag make the record invisible to the program, but you may note the program still knows, by record count, how many records are still in there.

To completely clean up a table, you need to do a Back function that purges the deleted records and cleans up the database. To do this:

A) Select the Main Menu option Setup;

B) Select the Setup Menu option Reindex Database Files;

C) If you are using in a Network setting, make sure no one else is using the program;

D) Start the re-index. Depending on the size of your files this could take some time.

 2) If you are getting Double Record errors, Out of Range Errors, C00000005 Errors, Window Failures if you attempt to print, appear to be missing records that you are positive where entered, or if you have had a power failure while working the program:

A) Enter the Lien Program®;

B) Select the Main Menu option Setup;

C) Select the Setup Menu option Reindex Database Files;

D) If you are using in a Network setting, make sure no one else is using the program;

E) Start the re-index. Depending on the size of your files this could take some time.

 3) Memo Error 41: If you get a Memo Error 41, your database tables have irrecoverably crashed. There is almost no way to get the data back. Please restore via your backup of the Lien Program® system, or you will have to do the following to re-install the Lien Program®:

A) Exit the Lien Program®;

B) Press the Windows 95/98 Start button;

C) Select Programs;

D) Select Windows Explorer;

E) On the left hand side of the Explorer, find the directory c:\Program Files\Lien Program (or whatever volume/folder you have located Lien Program®);

F) Highlight the c:\Program Files\Lien Program. Press the Delete key. Delete the entire c:\Program Files\Lien Program folder;

G) Exit the Windows Explorer;

H) Re-install the Lien Program®.
