Windows Keys Guide

When using your Lien Programs®, it is helpful to be aware of the standard Windows keystrokes and mouse movements for data fields.  It is a summary of those options to increase your efficiency in any Windows program:


FIELD FORMAT

Fields are left formatted except for currency fields, which are right formatted.  The beginning of a field is always to the left, the end to the right

Most Fields, if you Tab or Enter into a Field, all Words / Numbers within the Field will be selected


MOUSE SELECTION IN FIELDS

Single Left Click – Position Cursor in Field

Double Left Click – Select Current Word or Figure / Select Entire Field (depends on initial click)

Triple Click – Select Entire Field

Left Click, Hold and Move Left – Select Field to the Left to

Left Click, Hold and Move Right – Select Field to the Right to


KEYBOARD MOVEMENT IN FIELDS

Ctrl Left Arrow – Go to next space, comma, period to the left to to

Ctrl Right Arrow – Go to next space, comma, period to the right to to

Home – Go to the Beginning of the field to

End – Go to the End of the field to

Left Arrow, no selection – Move to next left Character.  If beginning of Field, move to prior Character to

Right Arrow, no selection – Move to next right Character.  If end of Field, move to next Character to

Left Arrow, Word or Number selection – Move to Beginning of Field to

Right Arrow, Word or Number selection – Move to End of Field to

Left Arrow, Full Field selection – Move to prior Field

Right Arrow, Full Field selection – Move to next Field

Shift Left Arrow – Select Field to the Left one Character at a time to

Shift Right Arrow - Select Field to the Right one Character at a time to


KEYBOARD SELECTION IN FIELDS

Page Up / Page Down – Select All Words / Numbers to

Ctrl A – Select Entire Field

Note: Select All Words / Numbers and Select Entire Field are not the same thing.   Page Up / Page Down copies the text only of the field.  Ctrl A copies text and empty spaces.


KEYBOARD INSERTION AND DELETION IN FIELDS

Ctrl C – Copy Highlighted Selected Text / Numbers

Ctrl V – Paste Selected Text / Numbers

Ctrl X – Cut and Store Highlighted Text / Numbers to Ctrl V

Ctrl Z – Restore Prior Text to back to

Backspace – Delete Characters from the left in the Field to

Delete – Delete Characters from the right in the Field to

Insert – Press once, over write text.  Press twice, insert text.  Default is insert text. You tell if the overwrite is on if the OVR at the screen bottom is on
